Aunty Agnes’ Kitchen is named in honor of a dear mother and grandmother, Agnes Fatu Keili, whom everyone affectionately referred to as “Aunty”.
She was a school teacher by profession but, far more than that, a woman with the biggest heart you could ever find! She absolutely loved cooking and feeding other people. If you came to her house at any point in time, you were guaranteed to have food in your stomach.
Aunty Agnes was a God-fearing woman who led by example. We grew up watching her cook savory dishes - every single day - rich, aromatic, mouth-watering West Africa food that was so appealing, people always begged for more.
We wanted to share Aunty’s cooking with others, to offer a glimpse into her signature cuisine, and to have the same exhilarating feeling we experienced after eating her food.
Each dish is delicately cooked with her special recipes, carefully-chosen spices and other healthy ingredients and, more importantly, served with LOVE…..something Aunty Agnes so generously gave to others.
Food is a universal language that everyone can bond over, and Aunty used that to bring diverse people together, at the end of the day. Although Aunty is no longer with us in the physical form, her rich legacy and lessons taught still live on today.
The concept of Aunty Agnes' Kitchen has been in the making for years, but was officially given birth to in 2020. We are a mother/daughter duo originally from Sierra Leone, West Africa who have called the Carolinas home for the last two decades. Our vision is to share the feeling of home that Aunty Agnes made other people feel with the rest of the world.
